two reports on the city have been released this week
the first states that aucklanders work harder than the rest of the country and pay more. this has caused some discussion

the second notes that aucklanders are lonlier than the rest of the country due to the lack of community spirit in the city. i wanted to discuss this with someone, but i don't know my neighbours

I suspect it depends on which part of teh city. Do you think there was a community spirit back in Mangere? I'm not sure ...
ReplyDeletewhen it started, sure and i think it was because we were kids-we just played with whoever was around
ReplyDeletebut i've been living in the same street in mt eden for about twenty years now an i still only know the neighbours on a "nod hello" basis.
even dialysis-there are about 20 of us on the same shifts and i only know about four to speak to. mind you dialysis patients tend to vanish into their own misery during the sessions
I suppose there are communities within communities. We know some of our neighbours well enough to exchange favours (feed cats, take deliveries, watch each other's kids, exchange Christmas cards) and others not at all.
ReplyDeleteMum used to talk about Mangere in its startup period when we were all in and out of each other's homes but then the area just atomised into its sub communities.
